ASAM Integration: Six-Dimensional Assessment Through the Continuum (ASAM-I)

The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Criteria 3rd Edition and 4th Edition (Adult) are the most widely used and comprehensive set of guidelines for assessment, placement, treatment planning, continued service, and transfer/discharge of clients with substance use and co-occurring disorders.  The ASAM Criteria utilizes six dimensions to form a broad assessment, which in turn provides information for service and treatment planning across all levels of care.

This online Enhanced Professional Learning (EPL) interactive series will provide collaborative training and real-time practice opportunities essential to the development and/or refinement of applying the ASAM Criteria in a clinical setting. Emphasis is placed on applying ASAM Criteria for in-depth assessment, proper placement, service and treatment planning, continued service and transfer/discharge of clients.

WHEN:

Every Friday, August 16 – September 20, 2024 from 10:00 – 11:30 am Mountain / 11:00 am- 12:30 pm Central

OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the ASAM-I Enhanced Professional Learning Series, participants will be able to:

• Classify each of the five broad ASAM Levels of Care that reflect a Continuum of Care and understand the updates of Level of Care for Adults within the 4^th Edition.
• Explore how to apply the Six-Dimensional Assessment for placement into a level of care through participation in group discussions and activities. Additionally, the Six Dimensions updated in the 4^th Edition (Adult) will be briefly reviewed.
• Explain the ASAM 0-4 Risk Rating and overall Severity Rating for proper level of care recommendations.
• Formulate how to develop behavioral focused treatment goals based on Six-Dimensional Assessment properly using the assessment results.
• Recognize and discuss the three concepts of Continued Service, Transfer, and Discharge Criteria. Additionally, a short overview of Risk Rating with the 4^th Edition (Adult) Version will be discussed.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

• Behavioral Health, Substance Use Disorders, and Recovery Service providers located in HHS Region 8 (Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming)
• Current utilization of the ASAM Criteria in clinical practice
• Foundational knowledge of the ASAM Criteria

PARTICIPANT COMMITMENT & EXPECTATIONS

• Access to appropriate technology to use Zoom videoconferencing platform (internet connection, webcam, computer/tablet, speakers and microphone)
• Attend a live 1-hour orientation on August 16
• Commit to 5-weeks of training for 1.5 hours weekly from August 23 – September 20
• Complete 1-hour of weekly learning activities outside of the sessions and share findings with the group during each session
• Be prepared, engage, and actively participate while on camera during each session
• It is encouraged that participants have access the The ASAM Criteria: Treatment Criteria for Addictive, Substance-Related, and Co-Occurring Conditions Third Edition (2013) or Fourth Edition (2024)

THERE IS NO COST TO PARTICIPATE:

The first 25 registrants will receive a waiver that covers the entire $350 cost of participation. Due to limited enrollment, if you cannot commit to the full participant requirements, please defer this registration opportunity to others.  Registration is not transferable to another person.

NOTE:

Registrants enrolled in this series are expected to attend the first TWO sessions. In addition, it is expected that participants will have access to the appropriate technology to fully participate and be on camera at least 90% of the time. This is not a webinar series and active participation to gain/improve skills are required.

CONTINUING EDUCATION: 

The series has been approved for a total of 13.5 contact hours (12.5-hours content instruction and 1-hour orientation session) through the National Association for Addiction Professionals (NAADAC), International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC), and the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) ACEP No. 6492. CE credit will be awarded at the conclusion of the series for full-session participation. Make-up work will not be provided or accepted for missed sessions.

The knowledge and skills learned should be applied within the framework of any applicable Operating and/or Credentialing regulations in your State of practice.
