Supporting Adolescent Wellness: A Learning Series on Substance Use Awareness and Intervention

This 7-week interactive training series is designed for therapists, social workers, substance use disorder counselors, and mental health professionals who work with youth. In this evidence-based program, we will explore the latest trends in adolescent substance use, developmental vulnerabilities, screening tools, and effective treatment models—including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and family-based approaches. Participants will gain practical skills to engage teens and families, navigate ethical and legal considerations, and collaborate across systems to promote resilience and recovery. Join us to deepen your clinical toolkit and enhance your impact with adolescents facing substance use challenges.

WHEN:

Every Thursday, May 28 – July 9, 2026 from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm Mountain / 12:00 – 1:30 pm Central

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Professionals in behavioral health, substance use disorders, mental health disorders, peer recovery support, and medical practitioners located in the Mountain Plains ATTC Region (HHS Region 8 includes CO, MT, ND, SD, UT, and WY).

PARTICIPANT COMMITMENT & EXPECTATIONS

  • Attend a live 1-hour orientation session on May 28 at 11:00 am Mountain/12:00 pm Central
  • Commit to 6-weeks of online training for 1.5 hours weekly from June 4 – July 9.
  • Complete weekly self-study learning activities
  • Access to appropriate technology to utilize Zoom videoconferencing platform (i.e., internet connection, webcam, computer/tablet, speakers, and microphone)
  • Be prepared and actively engage while on camera during the scheduled series time

THERE IS NO COST TO PARTICIPATE: The first 35 registrants will receive a waiver that covers the entire $450 cost of participation. Once the spots have been filled, registration will be closed. Due to limited enrollment, if you cannot commit to the full requirements, please defer this opportunity to others.

NOTE: Registrants enrolled in this series are required to attend the orientation and Week 1 sessions. If you cannot attend these sessions, you will forfeit your attendance. In addition, it is expected that participants will have access to the appropriate technology by Week 1 to be able fully participate and be on camera during the session. This is not a webinar series and active participation is required to gain/improve skills.

CONTINUING EDUCATION:

The series has been approved for a total of 16 contact hours (15 hours content instruction and one-hour orientation session) through the National Association for Addiction Professionals (NAADAC), International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC), and has been approved by CASAT, School of Public Health, University of Nevada, Reno, as a NAADAC Approved Education Provider, for 16 CEUs. NAADAC Provider #98165. CASAT is responsible for all aspects of its programming. No credit will be awarded for non-attendance or partial attendance.

The knowledge and skills learned should be applied within the framework of any applicable Operating and/or Credentialing regulations in your State of practice.
